Graffiti + HDR = Holy shit nuggets awesome

The awesome people over at Abduzeedo have some extremely beautiful HDR photos of various subjects, but my favorite of em all is the HDR graffiti photos like the one above. Graffiti is right up there with McDonald's french fries for things I love most in this world, and these photos definitely do the colors some well-deserved justice. Which is ironic since graffiti is illegal. Much like the two 30" cannons i walk around with attached to my shoulders.

Photo of the Day!

This photo comes courtesy of Markus Hatel over at the Urban Views website. I've been wanting to post about this guy for a while giving that one of my most favorite forms of photography is street photography. His ability to take candid shots without anyone looking at the damn camera ruining the moment is only enhanced by the powerful contrast of black & white.

Take a moment to view some of his work. I'm going to go out on the street and take photos too, but it's probably just going to end up like last time with me getting punched in the face after taking picture of this one guy and pointing and laughing....

Photowalking: And you thought they were tourists...

As I was sitting in ofront of my computer being the awesome bblogger that i I am, I came across this great concept on . It's simplicity is what makes the idea of this site so great. The main goal is a collaborative effort to help people of all levels improve, practice, learn, or have fun with photography by gathering together to take pictures of amodels, nature, life, etc. It's great for those who are looking to learn and expand their photography skills (me!) so the netxt time you see someone walking with the camera, don't just point and laugh and call them a stupid foreigner...... get a camera and start walking with them!

Ladies of Flickr #2

Nothing much to say here people. Thanks to the peoples over at Flickrbabes.com for providing a current stock of amazing photos.

If you don't go now, I'll assume you don't like photography.......or women.

Photo of the Day!

Words really can't describe my feelings about this photo. Asians are some of the smartest people I know, but god damn if they don't do the weirdest shit I've ever seen. In commemoration of weird asians, I've written a haiku and it goes a little something like this:

Silly Asian Man,
Posing with some Manga Girl,
He looks like a douche

Photo Blogs o' Plenty!

Cameraporn.com (don't be fooled by the name) has compiled one of the most extensive lists of relevant and hip photography blogs I've come across. On top of that, they have also done previous lists of photography blogs and I for one will be digging through these like the FBI do my trash cans after that whole "tax-fraud/evasion" thing. I swear i thought taxes were OPTIONAL....

Photo of the Day!

If you've followed the news lately, which i sure haven't thanks for asking, you probably maybe sort of heard of the volcano erupting in Chile recently that had been lying dormant for quite sometime.

Well, as if the people of Chile weren't having a hard enough time running for their lives from hot, molten magma they also had to deal with a storm that had been a brewing.

The above photo is the result of the storm and volcano converging. This kind of reminds me of the time when i first swore at my mom: a catastrophic disaster that resulted in massive (emotional) trauma.

Photo site of the week!

If you have a hankerin' for some vintage photos that look right out of somebody's old album or some that appear to have been tucked away in some box in an attic then hanker no more.

Big Happy Funhouse is an eclectic, conglaumuration of old school photos. Random moments captured in time that have stories to tell. Just scroll through the pages and take a trip down memory lane.

Thanks to Brandon who actually lives in a funhouse for the tip.

Photo Tip of the day

This photography tip comes to you courtesty of PopPhotoFlash.com. A great site with useful stuff so be sure to click the link through to explore more of their tips and submissions.

Visual lines lead the viewer into your image and to your focal point. In order for your photo to say want you want it to, it’s important to know how to different types of lines affect an image’s mood.

• Vertical lines such as a tree are solid and firm and can give your image a feeling of power and stability.

• Horizontal lines such as horizon lines are more peaceful and static, and can suggest permanence and tranquility.

• Diagonal lines are active and dynamic, they create tension and bring to mind action and motion.

• Curved lines such as a reed blowing in the wind also suggest motion, but have a slower, more graceful feel.

Slow Motion is Awesome!

The invention of the ultra-high speed film rate to slow down fast moving objects to a crawl (bullets, glass breaking, water splashing) has brought us some extremely awesome stuff. In the examples above its crazy how the water retains it's shape for so long, but what we actually see is just a big freakin mess of water falling.

Click through the link to find some more awesome, and not-so-awesome examples of high speed filming.

Thanks to Brandon, who lives on Live Link for the 2nd video.

Make your own photo portfolio

This great resource of a website allows the simple creation of books by compiling your own text and photos into a great, professional looking book.

Plus, the price or $13 bux (softcover, before s&h) for one 7x7 book is a fantastic deal. For all you designers out there, this is a great idea for whipping together a sharp looking mini-portfolio to carry around with you, and for the bloggers out there you can even turn your blogs into an annual "year-in-review" book containing your blogs entries and photos!

Shout out to Luke at I'mnotyourbuddyguy blog for the tip!

My look how far we've come...

If you've ever felt a little nostalgic in how far we have come in photography as far as technology goes, just take a gander at the first digital camera (above). Thanks to Kodak for the photos of this dinosaur.

What appears to be some steampunky version of a camera is an actual model of what was used in the beginning. I've seen pinhole cameras look more high-tech.

Product Spotlight: Red Scarlett Ultra-HD

Allow me the honor to introduce the mother of all cameras. A camera so extraordinarily badass, a camera that has a 5x clarity of that of what we mere mortals see on our puny 1080p HD TV's (refer to the 2nd photo above). I'm talkin the Red Scarlett Ultra HD Camera. First featured on notcot.com, this camera absolutely blew my mind. The compact shell of the camera before all the amazing add-ons is still better than any camera i have ever shot with (read:3). It goes without saying that this is not your everyday camera, but if you want to shoot the shit out of some high-quality images, and plan on reprinting them to the size of skyscrapers this may be your camera. Oh and I guess if you have $3000 lying around that MIGHT help. Oh sweet, i just found a quarter....anybody want to lend a brother $2999.75 dollars?

Photo of week!

Such a great photo from decoylikecurves.com. The scale of the cliff makes these look enorumous, the composition of the curves takes the eye all the way to the extreme blackness of the entrance.
